Daniel says hi, you guys.

This picture is from the back cover of a noodly, bombastic art-rock concept LP from late 1975 called Engineers at the Dawn of the Supra-Conscious by barely known trans-Atlantic duo Sesquiped Alien. The front has one of those sexy robots taking off her face, with multicolored wires dangling from under her bathrobe. The first song is called “Water has Memory.” The last one is called “Memory has Water.”

Notable for its use of both classical themes (both pipe organs and full orchestras are present on the closing track of side one, “The Honeywine in the Hall of the Mountain King is Found to be Wanting”) and modernistic ideas (the musique concrète embellishments on the opening of side two, “Ambergris and Her Android Lover”), it nonetheless failed to break through to American or British audiences, which were still in thrall to the glam thunder of Led Zepplin and Queen, and about to succumb to the snarling gobfest of punk rock.

Rolling Stone said: “There’s a part of me that really wants to like this record. The other part of me is chasing that part through the woods with a chainsaw.”

Trouser Press said: “Somewhere between the idiosyncratic genius of Brian Eno and the technical brilliance of Yes stand Sesquiped Alien. Only not quite.”

Creem said: “WOOO. BEER. Who the fuck is THIS?! Someone find me that picture of Joan Jett staring at Debbie Harry’s tits!”
